Sun Breaks: They Really Are a Big Deal
I was born in the Pacific NW, but from age thirteen on, I spent a good chunk of time away from the cloud-covered region. When I moved to back years later, I didn’t get what these sun breaks were that everyone seemed obsessed with. I get it now. The minute the sun comes out, I feel a rush of joy. I make sure to point it out: “The sun!” And guess what? As I’m typing this, here it comes.
As I continue my journey of searching for light, I find myself grateful for each glimpse of sun. It’s always there, but when I see it and feel its warmth, I am reminded of how desperately humans need it to survive. Without the sun, we’d be doomed. Maybe that’s one reason why so many artists photograph and paint it. The sun’s company is part of the human experience.
Wherever you are in the world, I hope you catch a glimpse of the light today. I hope it reminds you that you are seen and loved. And if the sun is hiding today, may you trust it’s still there. With love, Heidi Beth
